Junior League of Pasadena Needs Support to Meet Today’s Deadline

A Pasadena-based non-profit organization is in the final stages of an online competition, and currently about two hundred votes shy of third place.

The Junior League of Pasadena (JLP), an organization of women who volunteer in the community and participate in projects designed to improve quality of life in the San Gabriel Valley, has been reaching out to their membership and social media family throughout the past week to gain votes for LA Photo Party’s Annual Non-Profit Party Package Giveaway.

“I’ll be honest, we’re probably not gonna win,” said Roxanne Pipkin. “But we have a good shot at getting third place.” The JLP is currently in fifth place the LA Photo Party contest, with only two days left for voting.

There are three prizes awarded in the competition, to the three non-profit organizations who receive the most votes. Currently leading the competition is Children’s Institute, Inc. with almost 1500 votes, Vistamar School with close to 1200 votes, Planned Parenthood Young Professionals of Los Angeles with over 350 votes, The Sunshine Kids with over 260, and then the League, with roughly 140 votes. The JLP would need over two hundred votes to pull ahead of Planned Parenthood.

Pipkin said the League had been in fourth place until recently, when one organization received several hundred votes, seemingly overnight. She is still hopeful the JLP can gain enough support to pull ahead in the final days of voting.

Third place prize grants the recipient a roaming social media iPad photographer for 2 hours, which the JLP hopes to utilize at a fundraising event next year.

“On April 12, 2014 the Junior League of Pasadena will host our annual luncheon fundraiser, Simply Speaking, at the University Club of Pasadena,” states the website entry. “The University Club of Pasadena, like the Junior League of Pasadena, has been an active part of our Pasadena community since the 1920s. There will be a silent auction and donation drawing. We will also be presenting the Nancy Reed Payne Award at the luncheon. This event is open to members of the Junior League of Pasadena, community members and our partners.”

The JLP has been active in getting out the word about the contest by emailing members and posting links on the JLP Facebook page and Twitter feed. Those members of the community who wish to support the JLP can go to the LA Photo Party contest page at laphotoparty.com/nonprofit and click the link next to the organization to vote. Each person is allowed to vote once per day, and every vote is verified through a working email address. Voting ends at 11:59pm on Monday, November 11th.
